Due to the rapid onset of COVID-19 City Hall and all related offices are closed until further notice. Utility payments are due as normal. Please place the payment in the office drop box. Customers that pay over the telephone or with a credit card will need to make other arrangements for payment ie via money order or check. Office personnel will not be available normal business hours. The drop box is being checked daily.
On October 12th, 2020 Allen Coleman was recognized by the Nixon Police Department for his selfless giving of PPE’s to First Responders in the City of Nixon and K-9 equipment to the Nixon Police Department. Nixon Police Chief Christopher Aviles stated that Mr. Coleman’s sense of community separated him from the average citizen. Mr. Coleman stepped up during the onset of COVID-19 when many were fearful of the pandemic and its effect on their families, friends and community. Thank you Mr. Coleman!
Mr. Donald Hoffman, local educator, author and beloved historian was recently honored by the City of Nixon as the recipient of the 2020 Citizenship Award. Mr. Hoffman has worked diligently gathering historical facts regarding Nixon, Gonzales County and surrounding areas for numerous years. The historical wall monument located on the Nixon Post Office parking lot was imagined and brought to fruition by Mr. Hoffman. The beautiful vintage pictures allow the viewer to pleasantly reminisce of an earlier time. The City of Nixon sincerely gives our thanks and gratitude to Mr. Hoffman for his dedication in making Nixon beautiful and original.
The first day for early voting by personal appearance is coming quickly! Per the Governors Proclamation dated July 27th, 2020 early voting by personal appearance will begin Tuesday, October 13th and be available thru Friday 10/30/20. Early Voting in Nixon will be held at 100 W. Third Street i.e. NIXON CITY HALL, Nixon, Texas 78140.
The Nixon Mayor and City Council voted and approved the parks’ name change during the 9/24/20 City Council Special Meeting. The park is in the midst’s of a landscaping update. Once completed a public ceremony honoring Glaydne will be held. The “reveal” date will be announced over the next few weeks and the public will be invited.
Mr. Pablo Aguirre was honored by Nixon Mayor Dorothy Riojas and the City Council on 9/24/20 for his tireless efforts of beautifying our community. He and Donald Hoffman have spearheaded several beautification projects over the past years. One of the most recent projects being the updating of the painted mural on the Nixon Main Drug Pharmacy building as well as the addition of a 2nd Mural located behind the Nixon Gazebo. A historic monument and garden was recently completed in the parking lot of the Nixon Post Office. The public is encouraged to stop by and read the inscriptions and enjoy a view of our past.
Pablo has a few surprises for Nixon, Texas in the near future! The City of Nixon is happy and excited to honor our former Nixonite for all he has done and plans to do in our community.
Billy D. White was awarded the 2020 Life Saving Award by the Nixon City Council on 9/24/20. He was recognized for coming to the aid of an injured citizen. The event occurred on 09/01/2020. The citizen was exiting the Nixon City Hall and lost her footing. Injuries occurred to the side of her head. EMS and Police were called. Billie’s quick reactions to render aide brought relief and comfort to the individual.
We are so grateful for his alertness and willingness to help others. It is unknown how long the citizen had been on the ground or how many people failed to see her and drove on past the location where the incident occurred. Thank you Billy D. White!
